Georgia to Maine - - Please join me from start (4/1) to finish (8/10) - 132 days!!!!!

Bethlehem, NH
I have completed my thru-hike of the AT from Georgia to Maine; I started 4/1 and completed 8/10/10. I decided to do this thru-hike in memory of my brother Michael and in turn decided to turn it into a fundraiser. All money raised went to the Adaptive Sports Partners of the North Country which gives year-round opportunities in sports and recreation to people with physical or developmental disabilities. My wife Pam and I got involved with this program because it allows us to help people with disabilities enjoy the outdoors like we do and my brother Michael did. Michael was born mentally challenged, and he loved to visit us in the North Country of NH and go hiking. He also loved the outdoors and did many other sports. So, to help others do this and other outdoor activities is a TRIBUTE to him, and an HONOR to us. Many of you have helped me along my journey and donated (follow donation link) directly to a secure website. All donations have gone and WILL CONTINUE to go to ASPNC – nonprofit org to help assist others to hike, ski, kayak, snow shoe..etc… Thank you all in advance for your kindness & generosity, Dave & Pam Smith

Saturday 7/31 = 2,000 miles reached!!!!!!

Ponytail got a late start this morning. He needed to wait for the mail to arrive. He called me at about 10am. He got mail! Good thing, it had one of his maps in it along w/a beautiful article on him in our local newspaper. The Littleton Courier.

He threw everything in his pack and headed out to meet the shuttle as it was getting ready to leave to bring hikers back to the trail head.

Another gorgeous day. Puffy clouds, blue skies. Feeling good. Foot still hurts but everyday he “just deals” with it along w/all the other aches and pains.

Bigelow West (4,145) Spectacular views. Absolutely one of the best places on the AT. 360 panoramic views of Sugarloaf Ski area and other surrounding mountains.

Bigelow Avery Peak (4,090) was more amazing views. Just a little after reaching this peak he called to say he had reached the 2,000 mile mark.

He has traveled 2,000 miles on the AT continuously for 122 days. Only taking about 10 days off completely. So, averaging about 18 miles every day. Unbelievable! What a man!

Then he summits Little Bigelow(3,010) and travels to the Little Bigelow Lean to (1,760). This lean to will sleep 8. He met Moose & Tetherball there. Looks like Inferno and Fastlayne pushed on to the next shelter. They all hope to meet up Monday morning to go on the Ferry over the Kennebec River together.

15.3 Miles today 2.005.7 miles to date
