Georgia to Maine - - Please join me from start (4/1) to finish (8/10) - 132 days!!!!!

Bethlehem, NH
I have completed my thru-hike of the AT from Georgia to Maine; I started 4/1 and completed 8/10/10. I decided to do this thru-hike in memory of my brother Michael and in turn decided to turn it into a fundraiser. All money raised went to the Adaptive Sports Partners of the North Country which gives year-round opportunities in sports and recreation to people with physical or developmental disabilities. My wife Pam and I got involved with this program because it allows us to help people with disabilities enjoy the outdoors like we do and my brother Michael did. Michael was born mentally challenged, and he loved to visit us in the North Country of NH and go hiking. He also loved the outdoors and did many other sports. So, to help others do this and other outdoor activities is a TRIBUTE to him, and an HONOR to us. Many of you have helped me along my journey and donated (follow donation link) directly to a secure website. All donations have gone and WILL CONTINUE to go to ASPNC – nonprofit org to help assist others to hike, ski, kayak, snow shoe..etc… Thank you all in advance for your kindness & generosity, Dave & Pam Smith

Sunday 7/11 - Thanks Jim & Theo

Ponytail is going to have an early day as he is meeting friends. Jim & Ted. Jim actually hiked partially up Pico to find out that PTD got an earlier start and was about 3 miles ahead. Ponytail called him from the road crossing. Jim came and picked him up and brought him to the Inn at the Long Trail.

There they met Ted and all went out to lunch at the Long Trail Brewery. They all had a great time taking the tour. Doing some sampling of the freshly brewed beers and catching up. After that Jim went home. Very nice of him to come over to see PTD just for lunch.

Also, Ponytail wants to tell Sue & Dick Kenn that he is sorry that he missed them. They stopped by the Inn to try to catch up. Looks like he left about 12:15 to go to lunch. Only missed each other by minutes. He is a fast mover and doesn’t stay for long as you can tell. He will see you in NH.

Ted spent the night at the Inn w/Ponytail. They went to the grocery store so that PTD could re-supply for 3 days to get him to Hanover (where he will meet Jim again). Ted went off and did a little hiking himself. Ponytail didn’t want to go because he wanted to try to re-seal his tent seams so that they would have enough time to dry before he had to pack it back up. They hung out and watched the World Cup Soccer game w/some other thru-hikers, had dinner and called it a night. Those two had a really nice time together. Ted is a really good friend from MA.

Sat – forgot to mention after all the rain all the orange colored newts were out on the trail. PTD says he had to really watch where he was stepping so he wouldn’t squish any.
