Georgia to Maine - - Please join me from start (4/1) to finish (8/10) - 132 days!!!!!

Bethlehem, NH
I have completed my thru-hike of the AT from Georgia to Maine; I started 4/1 and completed 8/10/10. I decided to do this thru-hike in memory of my brother Michael and in turn decided to turn it into a fundraiser. All money raised went to the Adaptive Sports Partners of the North Country which gives year-round opportunities in sports and recreation to people with physical or developmental disabilities. My wife Pam and I got involved with this program because it allows us to help people with disabilities enjoy the outdoors like we do and my brother Michael did. Michael was born mentally challenged, and he loved to visit us in the North Country of NH and go hiking. He also loved the outdoors and did many other sports. So, to help others do this and other outdoor activities is a TRIBUTE to him, and an HONOR to us. Many of you have helped me along my journey and donated (follow donation link) directly to a secure website. All donations have gone and WILL CONTINUE to go to ASPNC – nonprofit org to help assist others to hike, ski, kayak, snow shoe..etc… Thank you all in advance for your kindness & generosity, Dave & Pam Smith

Wed 6/30 & Thurs 7/1

Wed - Phil brought Ponytail to the trail head early this morning to do some miles and then pick him back up for another good night of eating and sleeping.

PTD said he it was a great day to hike. Nice and cool out. Says it was one of the most enjoyable days on the trail in awhile.

He saw a porcupine. He was right on the trail. He was waddling along as he was all puffed out. Ponytail kept his distance and when he went in the bushes, he ran past him.

He ran into some old hiking buddies on the trail. Moose & Tetherball, Tequila John and Fusion. It was really nice to see some familiar faces.

Phil picked him up and brought him back to the house for steaks and all sorts of food. PTD must have gained a few pounds w/this visit. THANK YOU PHIL, AMANDA & BRIAN for the good times over the past 2 nights.

Today he did 12.3 miles today. He is now in Massachusetts!!! Only 4 more states to go. He also hit the 1,500 mile mark. 1500 miles. Can't believe it!

Thurs - After another nice night w/friends Phil, Amanda and her son Brian they dropped PTD off at the trail head in MA.

It was dry, cool and a breeze. Perfect hiking weather. Ponytail says he had variety of terrain on the trail today. Some flats, mountains w/views, open fields, swamps, rivers, just kept changing. Change is good.

Saw the Shays Rebellion Monument - stone marker commemorates the last bloody fight of the farmers revolt in 1787 and had beautiful views of Benedict Pond.

Ran into some deer and flushed out some grouse.

He is staying in his tent at the MT Wilcox South Lean to along w/Moose & Tetherball. Nice he will have company tonight.

He traveled 20.8 miles today.
