Georgia to Maine - - Please join me from start (4/1) to finish (8/10) - 132 days!!!!!

Bethlehem, NH
I have completed my thru-hike of the AT from Georgia to Maine; I started 4/1 and completed 8/10/10. I decided to do this thru-hike in memory of my brother Michael and in turn decided to turn it into a fundraiser. All money raised went to the Adaptive Sports Partners of the North Country which gives year-round opportunities in sports and recreation to people with physical or developmental disabilities. My wife Pam and I got involved with this program because it allows us to help people with disabilities enjoy the outdoors like we do and my brother Michael did. Michael was born mentally challenged, and he loved to visit us in the North Country of NH and go hiking. He also loved the outdoors and did many other sports. So, to help others do this and other outdoor activities is a TRIBUTE to him, and an HONOR to us. Many of you have helped me along my journey and donated (follow donation link) directly to a secure website. All donations have gone and WILL CONTINUE to go to ASPNC – nonprofit org to help assist others to hike, ski, kayak, snow shoe..etc… Thank you all in advance for your kindness & generosity, Dave & Pam Smith

Saturday 6/12

This morning Ponytail hiked about 6.5 miles out to Rte 325 to the road crossing and hitched a ride back to Duncannon. The man that picked him up was only going so far. A ride is a ride. He got dropped off about 2 miles out of town.
He walked along some busy and residential streets. He passed many dogs and a lady out gardening. PTD also came across this bird that kept following him. The darn bird(somewhat looked like a small falcon) kept swooping down at his hat. We think he likedx the shiny objects on it. I was on the phone w/Ponytail at the time and I could hear the cars whizzing by(he was on the busy street) and I could also hear the bird making strange noises as it swooped in. Of course by the time PTD hung up w/me and got out the camera the bird had flown off.

It was a hot and humid day and PTD's left foot was bothering him again. Somewhat swollen on the outer edge. He will rest it once he is back in Duncannon.

PTD got to the Doyle Hotel(one of the original Anheuser-Bush hotels, that is more than 100 years old), booked his room and off for a much needed shower. He hadn't showered since I was w/him in WV last weekend. Says he smells worse than a old goat. I believe it. After his shower he went and did his laundry, picked up mail and then off to the pub to meet friends and cousin Mark.
At the pub the game had just started and it was packed w/about 20 thru-hikers(most he has seen at one time or another). They all came to watch the game.

No Mr. Vix or 2 Rings. Someone mentioned that Mr Vix was sick a ways back and got off the trail for a bit. No word on 2 Rings.

As for Jimmy "the flying Scotsmen" he has gotten off the trail. He got sick and needed to fly back to England

Jimmy, Ponytail says that you are a terrific memory and a friend that he will never forget. He wants to stay in touch. We have your email. Says when you come back to the states next year to finish the trail to call us and we will absolutely help you on your journey. Remember to dial "1" 1st :) PTD will miss you on the trail! Hope you are feeling better really really soon.

Cousin Mark arrived on a beautiful Harley. Well, all of you know how Dave loves motorcycles. So, Mark let him take it out for a ride. PTD had a fantastic ride. 1st ride since he has been on the trail. He saw the mountains he had come over and where he was heading once back on the trail. Nice and relaxing ride.

When he came back him and Mark caught up (they haven't seen each other in a few years),they ate, drank, talked w/oodles of hikers and ate some more. PTD also, ran into Tin Tin and Inferno(Dave had stayed on top of Match Patch w/Inferno and her brother a ways back) He says it was really nice to see them.
The Soccer game ended up being a tie. No winner of losers.

PTD had a nice day. Thanks to cousin Mark for taking the ride down to see him for the night.
