Georgia to Maine - - Please join me from start (4/1) to finish (8/10) - 132 days!!!!!

Bethlehem, NH
I have completed my thru-hike of the AT from Georgia to Maine; I started 4/1 and completed 8/10/10. I decided to do this thru-hike in memory of my brother Michael and in turn decided to turn it into a fundraiser. All money raised went to the Adaptive Sports Partners of the North Country which gives year-round opportunities in sports and recreation to people with physical or developmental disabilities. My wife Pam and I got involved with this program because it allows us to help people with disabilities enjoy the outdoors like we do and my brother Michael did. Michael was born mentally challenged, and he loved to visit us in the North Country of NH and go hiking. He also loved the outdoors and did many other sports. So, to help others do this and other outdoor activities is a TRIBUTE to him, and an HONOR to us. Many of you have helped me along my journey and donated (follow donation link) directly to a secure website. All donations have gone and WILL CONTINUE to go to ASPNC – nonprofit org to help assist others to hike, ski, kayak, snow shoe..etc… Thank you all in advance for your kindness & generosity, Dave & Pam Smith

Tuesday 6/1

All got up this morning, packed up tents and headed out back on the trail.

Encountered trail magic by Tequila John. Big cooler full of soda, Rice Crispy treats, crackers… Thanks John. Wonder if he is done hiking or just taking a break and giving to the other hikers. He was thru-hiking in 2010.

Sue & Jere are through hiking after another 8 miles this morning + the other 17 from yesterday. (Really, they had only planned on hiking a day or so).  They will get off the trail and go back to PA and rest their sore feet at their day jobs a little bit after lunch. Ponytail says they were troopers. 25 or so miles in a day and ½. Not bad at all for not being conditioned like him. They think all the thru-hikers are crazy! Not really but they realize now somewhat what they all go through out on the trail.  Heard Sue & Jere didn't even take showers yesterday so they could try to smell like them.  Great job Sue & Jere!

Lunch was at the Skyland Service Road where there is a resort. Had lunch. Meantime while they were eating lunch the skies opened up. Soon as they finished it was like someone turned the facet off and it stopped. Just in time for Ponytail and the Scotsmen to say good bye and get back out on the trail.  Sue & Jere were to wait for Mike & Nancy to pick them up to bring them back to their car.  PTD will push on wards to get to Harpers Ferry by the weekend to be able to see more family.

PTD was excited to have his family hike yesterday and today w/him. Now he is a bit sad to see them go. Very much enjoyed their company.

Tonight he stayed at the Pass Mt Hut - 933.8 miles to date and 61 days on the trail.
